Temperament Our Champions and non-Champions will protect their families by dying if necessary to prevent harm to the children, grown-ups, other pets in the family. Our Champions and non-Champions are the best baby-sitter and protectors you will ever find for your children or other pets. Temperament: (German Shepherd Personality) People unfamiliar with the "true temperament" of the German Shepherd like we breed here at Keystone GSD, think the Shepherd as a breed is vicious, hates and attacks children and is dangerous to their owners. The opposite is true! The below story is true: I stepped outside the back door to rinse out a bucket when out of the woods two very large rottweilers came running straight towards me. I instantly could tell that these were not friendly dogs, and that they were intent upon attacking me. With one rottweiler, I could possibly defend myself, but with two, I was in real trouble. Our competitors use exercise pens for this purpose because they are afraid that their dogs would run off. And, from what I have seen, they would! Their dogs are miserable at shows while our shepherds enjoy the adventure. If our dogs ever wander too far, all we have to do is call them and they happily come to us.
